In a staunch defense of President Joe Biden‘s mental acumen, US Secretary of Justice and Attorney General Merrick Garland underscored Biden’s adeptness in tackling both internal and external challenges facing the nation.
“Let me reiterate what I’ve stated previously… I have unwavering confidence in the president. There’s nothing aberrant about the president’s cognitive faculties, and I firmly reject any portrayal suggesting otherwise,” Garland asserted during a congressional hearing on the fiscal year 2025 budget.

Garland further attested to personally observing Biden’s adept handling of Cabinet meetings concerning both domestic and foreign policy matters.
Amid Garland’s testimony before the Appropriations Committee, the clamor of protesters demanding the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange could be heard.
Biden, the oldest president in US history, frequently provides fodder for his political adversaries to question his cognitive prowess, often committing verbal slips and gaffes during public addresses. Republicans exploit this in partisan skirmishes to undermine Biden’s efficacy as a leader.

In recent months, concerns regarding the incumbent US President’s memory lapses have intensified: thrice he recounted anecdotes wherein he mistakenly referred to deceased predecessors instead of current heads of state.
A fresh wave of apprehension arose with special counsel Robert Heur’s report, following an inquiry into Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.
The report concluded that pursuing a criminal case against the US President was unwarranted, as he might appear before a jury as “a distinguished elderly gentleman with memory impairments.”
According to the report, Biden exhibited memory lapses during interactions with the special counsel’s team, struggling to accurately recall the timelines of his vice presidency and the date of his son Beau’s passing.
