The cause of the fire in the building is not yet known. Citing the police, Reuters reported that no injuries have been reported so far.
Video and images from the scene Tuesday morning showed the stock exchange building, which is undergoing renovations. And a terrible fire broke out in the building.
Emergency control fire service and various service organizations attended the spot immediately and helped to put out the fire. Many people gathered around the building and were removing large paintings to save them from the fire.
Denmark’s Deputy Prime Minister Troels Lund Poulsen described the fire as the Scandinavian country’s own “Notre Dame moment.”
“Terrible pictures from the Stock Exchange. So sad,” Poulsen said via social media platform X, according to a Google translation. “An iconic building that means a lot to all of us, I think.”
Standing tall at a majestic height of 56 meters (184 feet), the 17th-century structure once renowned as a hotspot for tourists no longer echoes the hustle and bustle of the Danish stock exchange.
Instead, it proudly houses the Danish Chamber of Commerce, nestled adjacent to the grandeur of Christiansborg Palace, the esteemed abode of the Danish Parliament.
In somber tones, Denmark’s Culture Minister, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, lamented the conflagration that ravaged what he revered as “400 years of Danish cultural heritage,” as per translated excerpts released via X on Tuesday.
He expressed poignant admiration for the collective efforts of building personnel, emergency responders, and local denizens who rallied together in a bid to salvage treasured relics and artworks from the infernal grip.
