Authorities arrested Nick Reiner hours after discovering the bodies Sunday afternoon at the couple’s upscale Brentwood residence. Police quickly determined the deaths were homicides and identified the son as responsible.

Nick Reiner failed to appear in court Tuesday due to medical reasons. He likely faces arraignment Wednesday.

Investigators have not disclosed a motive. Reports indicate Nick Reiner has long battled drug addiction, entering rehab first at age 15 and completing at least 17 programs.

Those struggles inspired “Being Charlie,” a 2015 film co-written by Nick and his father. Rob Reiner called it “the most personal thing I’ve ever been involved in” during a 2016 podcast interview with Marc Maron.

Local media reported spotting Nick Reiner arguing with his parents Saturday night at a holiday party hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien.

Rob Reiner, 78, directed classics including “When Harry Met Sally…” and “The Princess Bride.” He and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, married in 1989 and had three children.

Months earlier, the family appeared together at the September premiere of Rob Reiner’s latest film, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.”
