The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed the fatalities, with four injured individuals airlifted to hospitals and three others transported by ground ambulance. All patients requiring medical attention have since been taken to medical facilities. The crash involved two additional vehicles, including a cement truck, though it remains unclear where the fatalities occurred.

The bus belonged to Tom Green Elementary, carrying 44 students and 11 adults returning from a field trip to the of Texas Zoo in Cedar Creek, southeast of Austin. The Hays Consolidated Independent School District provided support to affected families, dispatching counselors and staff to the accident scene and a reunification point for parents.

Senator John Cornyn expressed his condolences and urged prayers for the victims and their families. Authorities advised the public to avoid the accident area as investigations continue.
