The cable network Starz has released the trailer for a darkly comedic miniseries about serial killer Sweetpea. The show is based on the novel of the same name by British author C.J. Skuse. Starring in the lead role is Ella Purnell, known for her roles in Fallout and Yellowjackets. The premiere is set for October 10.
At the heart of the story is Rhiannon Lewis (played by Purnell), an office worker who struggles with feeling invisible.
People ignore her, the guy she likes shows no interest, and her boss constantly denies her promotions. In the opening of the trailer, Rhiannon narrates how she keeps a list of people who have wronged her, fantasizing about killing them.
The turning point in her life comes one night on the street when her pent-up rage leads to a real murder. From that moment, the docile Rhiannon is no more.
She feels empowered, convinced she can do anything. The rush of newfound power is intoxicating, but can she keep her crimes hidden?
The season will consist of six episodes. Directed by Ella Jones, the series was written by a team that includes Kirstie Swain, Chrissy Ducker, Laura Tunbridge, and Selina Lim—all female creators.
