“I need my sons to know that I made decisions to protect them, to be there for them, and to continue living my life. Not out of cowardice or guilt,” Shakira said.
Shakira’s settlement, worth $15 million, helped her avoid a potential prison sentence. She was originally accused of failing to pay €14.5 million in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
In 2022, Spanish prosecutors sought a prison term of over eight years and a fine of €23 million for tax evasion. As part of the deal, Shakira agreed to pay a fine of over $8 million.

By making this agreement, Shakira aimed to put the issue behind her and focus on her children’s well-being.
