Singer and actress faced backlash after video surfaced showing two dancing closely at Sabrina Carpenter‘s concert in New York as shared by her friend, Connar Franklin.

Some users called out Gomez for what they deemed “vulgar behavior,” while others speculated that her recent breakup with music producer Benny Blanco made her “free again.”
Gomez fired back at critics with sarcasm on social media saying, “Oh my god, how dare I dance with my best friend?”
The couple quickly faced criticism online, with fans claiming that he was “unworthy” of Gomez. However, the “Wolves” singer didn’t hesitate to hit back at the criticism.

“I don’t understand,” she wrote in response. “If you actually care about me. This is my happiest. If you don’t feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever. I’m done. If you can’t accept me at my happiest then don’t be in [my] life at all.”

Dance took place as part of a celebration following release of the musical crime drama Emilia Perez, directed by Jacques Audiard.
The film which stars Gomez alongside Zoe Saldana, Adriana Paz, and Carla Sofia Gascon, premiered at Cannes Film Festival in May, where the cast awarded Best Female Role.
