On a fateful evening, the North East Express, en route from Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi to Kamakhya Junction in Assam’s Guwahati, experienced a catastrophic derailment at precisely 9:53 pm. This untimely tragedy struck when six coaches of the train lost their track, throwing the lives of passengers into disarray. Disturbingly, two AC 3 Tier coaches had toppled over, while four others had jumped the tracks, as televised by news agencies.
The Railway Ministry issued a statement saying, “Train number 12506 (Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya) was traversing the main line of Raghunathpur station when six coaches derailed.”
The Gruesome Toll on Passengers
This unfortunate incident claimed the lives of four passengers, and at least 70 others suffered injuries. Prompt medical attention was administered, with the critically injured transported to AIIMS in Patna. The immediate response also saw ambulances and medical personnel rushing to the scene.
