Matthew Miller: The United States welcomes the new government of Palestine

On Friday, State Department spokesman said the welcomes the formation of the new Palestinian government and looks forward to working together to advance peace, security, and in the region.

“We support the appointment of a new Palestinian National Authority Cabinet that will serve the interests of the Palestinian people,” said Miller, whose written statement was released by the State Department.

Matthew Miller said Washington is counting on with the new Palestinian cabinet to “advance peace, security and prosperity” in the region and expects the new government to make “credible reforms.”

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday confirmed the formation of a new government led by Mohammad Mustafa. The swearing-in ceremony of the new Palestinian government is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

In late February, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said he had submitted a request to Abbas to resign from his government.

Abbas accepted the resignation of the Shatayyeh government and ordered him to serve as acting prime minister until a new cabinet was formed.
