The Murrieta Department in was using Lego heads to digitally cover the faces of suspects in photos posted on , citing a new law that restricts sharing suspect photos for nonviolent crimes unless specified circumstances exist.

The law, known as Assembly Bill 994 and Penal Code 13665, also mandates the removal of suspect mugshots from social media after 14 days, unless special circumstances apply.

The police department stated that they started using Lego faces to obscure suspects' faces even before the law went into effect on January 1st. However, Lego Group contacted them, requesting them to stop this practice.

The police department emphasized their commitment to with the community while also respecting the rights and protections of suspects as afforded by law.
