John Amos beloved actor known for his roles in “Good Times,” “Roots,” and “Coming to America,” has passed away at the age of 84.
According to Deadline, actor died on August 21st of natural causes. His passing has deeply saddened many in industry. Amos’ son Kelly Christopher Amos, confirmed the news today expressing heartfelt sadness.
In a statement, Kelly said, “My father had the kindest heart, and many fans saw him as their TV father. He lived a fulfilling life, and his legacy will live on through his work.”
“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor,” Kelly said.
Born on December 27, 1939, in Newark, New Jersey, Amos attended East Orange High School. Before acting, he pursued athletics briefly trying out for the Denver Broncos and playing for Colorado State.
Unfortunately an Achilles tendon injury ended his athletic career, but he credited Coach Hank Stram for helping him realize his true passion for acting.
Amos’ remarkable career touched many and his roles in both television and film will continue to inspire audiences for generations to come.
