Lady Gaga once faced a rumor that she was a “man.” Early in her career, she avoided addressing these rumors, which only fueled more speculation.
Gaga later clarified this during a conversation with Bill Gates, where she discussed the confusion surrounding the rumor.
In an Instagram video, Gaga posted a caption saying, “Did you know that Lady Gaga never addressed the questions about her being a man because she didn’t want to appear ashamed, allowing people in similar situations to know there was nothing wrong? Watch ‘What’s next? The Future with Bill Gates’ on Netflix.”
At the beginning of the video, she shared, “So when I was in my early twenties, there was a rumor that I was a man.” She went on to explain that the rumor started in the 2010s after a doctored image of her circulated online.
“There was this imagery on the internet that had been altered, and people were like, ‘You know there’s this rumor that you’re a man. What do you have to say about that?’” she recalled.
Gaga explained to Gates, “I’ve been in situations where addressing a rumor wasn’t in the best interest of others. So, instead, I tried to be thought-provoking and disruptive in a different way, using the misinformation to create a more meaningful conversation.”
In this way, Gaga used the rumor to challenge societal norms, showing that rumors and misinformation could be transformed into a platform for positive disruption.
Lady Gaga has been in a relationship with Michael Polansky since 2019, and at the Olympics this year, it was revealed that the couple is preparing for their wedding.
