At the height of her career, 50-year-old supermodel Kate Moss faced harsh criticism for her slim figure. She is best known for her pale skin and slim body, she rose to fame in the 1990s.
Became a major trendsetter in the fashion world. This fame brought a wave of negativity, with many accusing her of promoting unhealthy body standards.
New Disney+ documentary Moss opened up about the intense scrutiny she faced during that time, as reported by the Daily Mail. She shared that strangers would almost confront her in public and blame her for influencing their children’s eating disorders.
“Parents would come up to me and say, ‘Because of you, my daughter has anorexia.’ It was awful. I think it was just because I was naturally skinny, and people weren’t used to seeing that. But it shouldn’t have been such a big issue. My body was just different from the models who came before me,” Moss recalled.
Her image skyrocketed after 1993 Vogue photoshoot when she was only 19. Fashion editor Catherine Casterine mentioned that the public was shocked by the photos, as they weren’t prepared for the shift in beauty standards. Even Vogue editor Dame Anna Wintour admitted that Moss’ very thin appearance made people uncomfortable.
Moss is famously quoted as saying, “Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels.” She attributes her slim figure partly to exercise, though she admits she’s not always consistent with it.
“My day starts with morning yoga; I have an instructor who comes to my house. I have a small gym with an exercise bike, although I don’t use it very often!” she shared.
