Jared Harris, 63, known for his acclaimed roles in ‘Chernobyl’ and ‘The Crown,’ recently opened up about why he agreed to star in the Marvel film Morbius alongside Jared Leto.
In an interview with iNews Harris candidly explained that his decision was driven by financial obligations, specifically his need to cover his mortgage.
“I have got a mortgage to pay, you know,” Harris remarked. He went on to share that, like many actors, there are times when he takes on roles in projects that may not spark his interest, simply because they provide a paycheck.
Harris also addressed the underwhelming reception of Morbius, a Spider-Man spin-off that failed to resonate with audiences.
He pointed to the film’s lack of humor as a key reason for its downfall. “These films do well when there’s a sense of humor. You can’t treat them like Shakespeare,” Harris noted, highlighting that successful superhero films often strike a balance between action and lightheartedness.
In Morbius, Harris played Dr. Emil Nicholas, a mentor and father figure to the film’s main character, Michael Morbius.
Despite the film’s failure, and with Jared Leto even receiving a Golden Raspberry Award for his lead role in March 2023, Harris’s performance stood out, as his seasoned acting continues to impress, regardless of the project’s outcome.
