India Election 2024: The world’s largest democratic elections are about to begin in India

Narendra Modi, known for his Hindu nationalist stance, has received support despite challenges such as rising unemployment and attacks on minorities. Elections for 543 seats of Parliament will be held from 19 April to 4 June.

It faces competition from Modi‘s Bharatiya Janata Party and Rahul Gandhi's National Congress. Other regional parties are in opposition.

Notably, he fulfilled his Hindu nationalist promise by opening the temple in Ayodhya. After this Modi's popularity increased. This election will test India's democratic values amid fears of the breakdown of Modi's rule.

India's current Prime Minister Narendra Modi first came to power in 2014 promising growth. Narendra Modi, 73, has combined religion with politics in a strategy that has won widespread support from the country's majority Hindu population.

India Election 2024 Date

The six-week-long general elections will begin on April 19 and the results will be declared on June 4. Voters make up more than 10% of the world's population. 543 members will be elected to the lower house of Parliament.
