Film producer Harvey Weinstein recently underwent emergency heart surgery, according to a report from Al Jazeera.
Weinstein, 72, currently serving a prison sentence in New York. He was admitted to hospital due to chest pain. His lawyer requested an immediate transfer to Bellevue Hospital. Doctors decided he needed emergency surgery.
The operation was successful, and Weinstein is now recovering in the hospital. A representative confirmed the surgery, but did not provide further details.
“We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today,” Rothfeld and Engelmayer said in a statement.
Weinstein convicted in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexual misconduct. However, in 2024, the case was reopened for a new trial due to procedural violations.
