Speaking in an interview aired on NBC's “Today” show, Riley emphasized his wish that his daughter's tragic demise not be used for political purposes. Laken Riley, aged 22, was discovered deceased on the University of Georgia campus last month following a report from her roommate about her disappearance.

Riley conveyed his discomfort with the politicization of his daughter's death, stating, “I'd rather her not be such a political… it started a storm in our country.” He noted the widespread impact her passing has had, stirring emotions and opinions among many.

The prime suspect in her murder is Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan national unlawfully entered the United States in 2022, according to reports. Riley expressed frustration at the situation, mentioning that individuals from various political leanings have directed their ire toward him and his wife in the aftermath of their daughter's death.

While Riley refrained from singling out specific politicians, he expressed his anger at the exploitation of his daughter's tragedy for political gain, stating, “I think it's being used politically to get those votes.” He emphasized Laken's character, describing her as “much better than that” and deserving of recognition for who she truly was—an angel.

Riley also mentioned his deliberate avoidance of coverage related to his daughter's case, underscoring the immense potential she had ahead of her at just 22 years old.
