British actress Emilia Clarke, 37, famous for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones,” will take on the lead role in a new Cold War series titled “PONIES.”
According to Deadline, the series is set in Moscow in 1977 and will focus on the tense atmosphere of the mid-70s Cold War.

The story follows two women who work anonymously as secretaries at the American embassy. After the mysterious deaths of their husbands in the USSR, they are thrust into the dangerous world of espionage, becoming CIA operatives.
Clarke will portray Bea, an intelligent and Russian-speaking woman from a family of Soviet emigrants. The other lead character, Twyla, is described as a sharp and fearless woman from a small town.
Together, Bea and Twyla will work to uncover a conspiracy and find out the truth behind their husbands’ deaths, while navigating the dangers of espionage during the Cold War.

The series written by Suzanne Fogel (The Flight Attendant) and David Iserson (Mr. Robot). In addition to starring in the series, Clarke will also take on the role of executive producer.
