Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore opened up about her past struggles with alcohol admitting that she drank to the point of blacking out.
In an interview with Zoe Kravitz, who directed the film Blink Twice about substance abuse and violence, Barrymore shared that her past drinking was something she deeply regretted. The Sun writes about this.
“I used to be a blackout drinker,” she told Zoë. “So watching this film was an extraordinary journey for me to forgive myself for that,” the 49-year-old actress confessed.
“Because I’ve put myself in situations I shouldn’t have put myself in, and I felt so much shame about that.
“And I haven’t had a drink in five years,” Drew continued, before the Big Little Lies star congratulated her on the milestone.
“Just wish I’d done it sooner rather than hiding from my trauma with alcohol and only creating more issues for myself. Thank you for sharing and always being vulnerable, raw and real,” a fan commented.
She went on to explain that her drinking led her into situations she now feels ashamed of. However, Barrymore proudly revealed that she has been sober for five years, expressing relief in having moved past that difficult chapter in her life.
