Even the immense fortune of David and Victoria Beckham cannot shield them from housing issues. For the next year, the celebrity couple will have to endure dust and the constant noise of construction.
Their neighbors have begun an extensive renovation and redevelopment of their five-story mansion, right next to the Beckhams’ home.
The construction work, set to last a year, includes wall demolitions, a new kitchen and bathrooms, underfloor heating, air conditioning, solar panels, and new doors and windows.
West London Council has approved the project, suggesting the stars be consulted in the planning stages.
According to The Sun, David and Victoria were invited to review the plans before they were submitted. “You can resolve any concerns they may have before you apply and thus avoid any objections from them. Even if they still have concerns, they will appreciate being better informed,” the council stated.
The officer added that even if the Beckhams grumble about say, noisy workmen, “they will be grateful for being better informed.”
“I recommend you write to your neighbors to explain what you are intending to do and offer them the opportunity to discuss this with you. You should include a copy of drawings.”
It remains to be seen whether David Beckham will be satisfied with the details of the extensive renovations. Given that he spent around $10 million on his mansion, it’s unlikely he’ll take the news lightly.
This isn’t the first time Beckham has faced such a situation. Four years ago, he successfully challenged a similar plan when his lawyers proved that the neighboring building was a protected architectural monument, preventing major alterations to its structure.
