American Serviceman Travis King: Recent events have resulted in the arrest of Travis King, an American serviceman who had previously escaped to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). This statement, which offered some clarification on the situation, was made on Wednesday by a senior White House official.
The official announced, “The good news is that Trooper Travis King has been taken into U.S. custody.”
This information follows an earlier report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), which claimed that the DPRK had chosen to remove Travis King after conducting an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his border crossing.
Private King admitted, over the course of the investigation, that he had chosen to enter the DPRK unlawfully at the Joint Security Zone in Panmunjom, according to the KCNA release. He gave two main justifications for his behavior.
The first thing he said was that he was disappointed with what he called “inhumane bullying and racism in the American army.” He also cited “the loss of illusions regarding American society” as another driving force.
