80-year-old Choi Soon-hwa has reached the finals of the national Miss Universe Korea pageant and may represent her country on an international stage, CNN reports.
If she wins she will become the oldest contestant in Miss Universe history.

On September 30, Choi will compete alongside 31 other finalists. The winner will advance to Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico. Traditionally, pageants had an age limit of 28, but since 2024, that restriction has been lifted.
“I want to stun the world, like, ‘How is an 80-year-old lady so healthy? How did she maintain that body? What’s your diet?’” she told CNN on the phone ahead of the pageant. “When you get old, you gain weight… So, I want to show that we can live healthily even when we get old,” Choi Soon-hwa shared.
“Now that the age restriction has been lifted, I said, ‘I should give it a try,’” Choi said, adding: “Whether I get through or not, I was determined to try and get this opportunity.”
