3 Doors Down Singer Brad Arnold Diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer, Cancels Tour

Brad Arnold, 46, frontman of rock band 3 Doors Down, announced a stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma diagnosis, with the cancer having spread to his lungs. The Mississippi-based band, known for hits like “Kryptonite” and “Here Without You,” canceled its summer 2025 tour due to Arnold’s health crisis – BBC report.

In a heartfelt video shared on social media on May 7, Arnold revealed he felt unwell weeks ago, prompting a hospital visit. Doctors diagnosed him with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the most common type of kidney cancer, which has metastasized to his lungs. “It’s stage 4, and that’s not real good,” he said, but expressed unwavering faith, stating, “We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. I have no fear.”

Arnold’s diagnosis forced 3 Doors Down to cancel their summer tour, set to begin May 15 in Daytona Beach, including shows with Creed and a performance at Morgan Wallen’s Sand In My Boots festival. “We’re sorry for that,” Arnold said, asking fans to “lift me up in prayer every chance you get.” He referenced the band’s 2008 song “It’s Not My Time,” calling it his anthem for this battle. Fans and peers, including Jason Aldean and Scott Stapp, flooded social media with prayers and support.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma accounts for about 80% of kidney cancer cases, primarily affecting men aged 50-70. Treatment often involves surgery, immunotherapy, or targeted therapies, but stage 4 ccRCC, with metastases, has a five-year survival rate of roughly 10%. Risk factors include smoking, obesity, and hypertension, though Arnold, a former smoker who quit in 2018, cited no specific cause.

Despite the grim prognosis, Arnold remains optimistic, drawing strength from his faith and sobriety, celebrated nine years in January. Formed in 1996, 3 Doors Down rose to fame with their 2000 debut album, The Better Life, featuring “Kryptonite,” written by Arnold at 16. The band’s music continues to resonate with fans as Arnold faces this personal challenge.
